The federal government continues to attract business-immigrants from around the globe. As of October 31, 2019, Canada issued permanent resident status to 4,240 foreign businesspeople. The dominating majority of business immigrants – 71.7% or 3,040 are investors within the Quebec Immigrant Investor Program (QIIP). The Federal Investor Program was closed in 2014, so currently, it is the only program for investors. The rest of the business-immigrants of this year immigrated under the Self-Employed Persons Program (SEPP), the Start-Up Visa Program, and provincial streams of business immigration. To date, 775 self-employed persons, 455 start-uppers, and 110 PNP entrepreneurs got a PR in Canada.
