Economic Development Minister of Ontario Vic Fedeli, who is responsible for immigration to Ontario, made a request to the new Federal Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino to increase the provincial quota for the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) to 13,300 nominations by 2021. If approved, this will increase the provincial number of nominations by 50% compared to the initial quota in 2019. In a formal letter to Mendicino, Fideli stated that the expansion of the OINP would respond to the labour market needs of Ontario.
