In 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has effectively managed the Canadian immigration system in response to the pandemic and reached its target of 401,000 new permanent residents. IRCC also launched six temporary resident to permanent resident pathways, allowing those already in the country to obtain permanent residency. In addition, since the Government focused on applicants who were within Canada, work and study permit holders consisted of the majority of applicants. However, despite the developments in the system, processing times have been increased, with an estimated 1.8 million applications.
